Highlights

One of my biggest jobs as a production assistant was creating game highlights. I could be covering any sport on any given night: NBA, college basketball, soccer, XFL, NHL, golf, baseball, and the list goes on.

It's up to you to find the best way to tell the entire sports world the story of a game.

A basic timeline of creating a game highlight goes as follows:

  • Complete background research on both teams, find any possible story lines

  • Log the game

  • Clip off plays while writing your shot sheet

  • If necessary, request certain graphics or lower thirds that can enhance your story

  • Check-in with highlight producers/show staff about your game

  • Work with an editor to clean up the highlight, add last minute touches before exporting

  • MOS final video and cut sheet into ENPS

  • Print out shot sheet and hand deliver to talent

Below are samples of game highlights that aired on SportsCenter.
