Where did the last four years go? Seriously. Someone please let me know.

When I look back on my time at the University of Rhode Island, the first word that comes to mind is growth.

Growth as an independent young woman. Growth in overcoming challenges. Growth in taking chances. Growth in my work-ethic. Growth in my writing. Growth on camera. Growth as a reporter.

In the beginning of my college journey, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I went to class, hung out with my roommates, would go to the dining hall and fitness center, complete my assignments and repeat it all over again. I was going through the motions, day by day. I knew I wanted to work in the field of journalism and be a sports reporter. But, I had no clue how to get there. I was hungry for experiences and the ability to learn. I wanted more. I wanted to grow.

From joining The 5 Cent Cigar News, completing internships at WLNE-TV in Providence and WFXT in Boston, working alongside Rhode Island Athletics and spending time at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut; I grew more than I ever could have imagined. Although I've spent a lot of time growing outside of the classroom, I feel that my course work played a significant role in preparing me for the real world. My courses taught me what journalism really is. Without learning a strong foundation of what it means to be a true journalist and great reporter, I wouldn't have had any of those real-world opportunities.

Journalism has inspired me to continue digging deeper. It motivates me to be curious and always want more; saying yes to any and every opportunity that presents a chance for growth. I am extremely passionate about the field of journalism and the value of telling a great story. I am honest and fair. I can be trusted and relied on.

My time at the University of Rhode Island has shown me that if you want something, go after it. My journey to becoming a female sports reporter hasn't come easy.

Growth doesn't come easy. It comes to those who work for it.
